How to Replace a HP Pavilion DV2000 Inverter on a Laptop

You'll need a screwdriver to get to your inverter.

If the backlight on your laptop functions as the light bulb for the LCD screen, then the inverter is the power source that connects to that light bulb. These days it is possible for the user to disassemble the computer's LCD screen. And if you do decide to take apart your LCD, you will inevitably run into the inverter. Removing and replacing the HP Pavilion DV2000 Inverter doesn't require any computer programming ability, nor does it require very much time.

1. Power off your laptop computer and remove the power cable. Disconnect the battery pack from the bottom of the laptop.

2. Remove all screws from the plastic bezel (frame) that surrounds the LCD screen. Remove any rubber pads covering the screws with your fingers or the tip of your screwdriver.

3. Insert your fingers between the bezel and screen and work your way around the sides of the bezel until it pops off the screen. Set it aside and locate the green inverter board mounted directly below the LCD.

4. Unplug the cables that connect at either end of the inverter. One is the screen cable and the other is the backlight cable.

5. Remove any screws holding the inverter to the screen. If there are no screws, pry it gently off the adhesive holding it to the computer.

6. Fit a new HP Pavilion DV2000 Inverter in its place and reverse the steps for reassembly.
